"Increasing the number of culturally responsible black engineers who excel academically, succeed professionally, and positively impact the community at the University of Georgia..."
Join Our Mission
The University of Georgia's NSBE chapter was founded in July of 2012 to fulfill the NSBE's national mission, "to increase the number of culturally responsible Black engineers who excel academically, succeed professionally, and positively impact the community." We look to make the NSBE family at UGA one that increases retention in the engineering department. We would also like to make a presence in the newly founded College of Engineering as an organization that has a passion for engineering. We are determined to make "Dawg Nation Innovation" more than it has ever been before. Our efforts are to enrich our members during their time at the university and throughout their engineering careers.

The National Society of Black Engineers is an organization that prides itself on increasing the number of culturally responsible black engineers who excel academically, succeed professionally and positively impact the community. We are committed to the growth and development of each and every one of our members as we continue to encourage them in their various STEM fields. this is an organization that takes you on conferences, builds your resume, and gives you an amazing network of fellow STEM majors. Scroll through our site, meet our officers, and we look forward to seeing you at our next meeting!

2016-2017 Executive BoardRihana Todd, President Welcome to the National Society of Black Engineers at UGA. We hope that you join our organization and take full advantage of everything we have to offer. Come to our meetings to learn how to be a leader and a professional in the STEM workforce. Princeton Geter, Vice President I love NSBE! Sterling Crossley, Treasurer Sterling is a second year Mechanical Engineering major from Stone Mountain, Georgia. He has had a passion for engineering ever since he he was introduced to it by his older brother, Wynton, in his early years of high school. He is an active member of organizations such as Black Male Leadership Society, LSAMP (Louis Stokes Alliance for Minority Participation), and BOLD modeling. His goal is to see UGA's chapter of NSBE not only grow in membership, but also into a more prominent and influential organization on campus year by year. Andrea Duncan, Secretary Hello NSBE fam, my name is Andrea Duncan and I am currently a second year Mechanical Engineering major who wants to use my design skills to benefit others. I am interested in designing prosthetic limbs or other body parts. I plan to continue my education on to graduate school where I will specialize in that field. I really look forward to getting to know you all personally and to give back to our community. I am also a mentor for UGA's B.E.S.T. program so please feel free to address your questions or concerns to me. If you are not already on our mailing list please email me. Thank you for the opportunity for me to be your 2016/2017 Secretary. Tochukwu Chuma-Akere, Senator My name is Tochi Okere, senator for NSBE UGA chapter. I am a fourth year mechanical engineering major graduating 2018 with a concentration in advanced energy systems. As senator, I serve as a liaison between our chapter and the regional/national level of the organisation. My duties include but are not limited to being actively engaged in regional/national business, voting for regional and national executive positions, implementing regional/national strategies and practices at a chapter level (and vice versa). Go dawgs! Nettie Brown, Parliamentarian Nettie is a third year student from Lithonia, Georgia majoring in Biochemical Engineering. She decided to attend the University of Georgia because of the learning atmosphere and many diverse programs and organizations. Nettie is an active member of several organizations, such as the National Society of Black Engineers, Mentoring Amongst Peers Program, African Student Union, and Delta Sigma Theta Sorority, Inc. She maintains her high academic standards as a HOPE Scholar and Peach State LSAMP Scholar (Louis Stokes Alliance for Minority Participation). In her free time, Nettie enjoys watching movies, cooking, and hanging out with her friends. After obtaining her degree in Biochemical Engineering, Nettie plans to pursue graduate education with the intention of receiving a PhD in engineering. Mary Brown, Community Service Chair Hey y'all, my name is Mary Brown, though sometimes I go by Marybeth, Beth, Murry, or whatever name someone comes up with that second. I am currently pursuing a degree in Mechanical Engineering (but we'll see how that turns out!). I am interested in everything, while holding favorites for nothing - trust me, I cant even tell you a favorite color - except the movie, Love Jones; I can quote it for you! As hobbies I currently enjoy photography, poetry, coding/programming, singing, and logo-making... its alot, haha. Nice to meet ya! Breanna Leonard, Finance Chair Hi hi! I am Breanna Leonard, a third year Mechanical Engineering student at the University of Georgia. I am honored to be this year’s Finance Chair for the UGA National Society of Black Engineers! I grew up on a tiny island called Saint Vincent and the Grenadines but so happy to call Athens, GA my second home! In my spare time, I love laying out on Herty Field with some good friends or a good book and even better pizza! My favorite UGA tradition is the Krypton! The Krypton happens right before the fourth quarter at every UGA football game. There’s something magical when 92,746 people raise their arms and four fingers on each hand and wave them up and down! It just shows the unity of the entire Bulldog nation and I absolutely love it and the chills it gives. So excited to meet all of you and for this year. GO DAWGS!!! Magall Mohamed, Programs Chair I am Magall Abajobir , formerly Magall Mohammed. I am a second year Biochemical Engineering major. I am the current Programs Chair. A personal strength of mine that I look forward to employ this year is my ability to gel with people of all backgrounds and get the best out of them. I believe that we have a lot of potential and can't wait to turn it into something tangible. Trevor Tyus, Conference Chair I am Trevor Tyus. I am a second year biochemical engineering major. I serve as the Conference Chair of the UGA NSBE chapter. My goal for this year is to have as many people attend conferences as possible and make it both a beneficial and enjoyable experience for our entire chapter. Janae Horton, Academic Excellence Chair Hey NSBE! My name is Janae Horton and I am a Nutrition Science major and Computer Science minor. Thank you so much to everyone that voted for me and allowed me to become an executive member. I take my role very seriously and am very excited to plan all of our study hall sessions and to get to know everyone in our org. I love my NSBE fam!
